In 1999, Pierce Brosnan stole the show in a remake of The Thomas Crown Affair that basically asked, “What if James Bond turned to a life of crime?” Fitting then, that in the new trailer for Michael B. Jordan’s upcoming take on the criminally steamy romantic thriller, the Sinners star is pulling off major 007 vibes immediately.
Jordan stars in and directs the new version of the classic story, which follows Thomas Crown, a billionaire playboy with money to burn and time to kill, as a master thief stealing valuable works of art. The original version was directed by Norman Jewison and starred Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway, before Die Hard director John McTiernan had his shot at the affair with Brosnan, Russo and a hair-raising heist played to the tune of Nina Simone’s “Sinnerman.” Flash forward to now, and Jordan is once again calling the shots in front and behind the camera, working from a script penned by Jason Hall (American Sniper) and Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3).
Starring opposite him as Thomas Crown is Andor and future DC star Adria Arjona, who will be taking on the role of the detective who’s trying desperately hard not to get caught in the spell of the man she’s catching. Supporting talent also includes Kenneth Branagh, Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira and Pilou Asbæk.
Given how ridiculously cool the previous two iterations of this tale have been, the new trailer is proving without a doubt that Jordan is up to the task. You’ll have to see how well he gets away with it when The Thomas Crown Affair arrives in theaters on March 5, 2027.
