Salt 2 ready for action

Angelina Jolie’s espionage thriller Salt has been pegged for the sequel treatment.

Sony has started to put the pieces into motion for Salt 2 , with the first film’s writer Kurt Wimmer commissioned to start writing a sequel script.

Deadline reports that Jolie is also keen to return, even though Salt director Phillip Noyce has declined an offer to helm this second round of action.

In the first Salt , released last year, Jolie starred as CIA agent Evelyn Salt, who’s accused of being a Russian spy. The film received mixed reviews, but there’s no balking at that $300m worldwide box office gross.

With the same writer attached for this follow-up, we should probably expect the same balance of twisty turns and over-the-top action stunts. Hands up who’s hoping Salt gets a sidekick called Pepper.
