While Marvel has yet to confirm the identity of any of its 2017 releases, Kevin Feige has strongly hinted that one of them will be an adaptation of Doctor Strange .
Now it seems that that hint is firming up into cold, hard fact, with THR reporting that Marvel is actively looking for a director for the project, and has come up with a four-man shortlist for the position.
50/50 director Jonathan Levine is one of those four contenders, with Mark Andrews ( Brave ), Nikolaj Arcel ( A Royal Affair ), and Dean Israelite ( Welcome To Yesterday ) also in the hunt.
For non comic-book fans, Doctor Strange is an arrogant neurosurgeon who suffers a hand-mangling car crash, before mastering the art of magic under the tutelage of a character known as “the Ancient One”.
Johnny Depp has repeatedly been linked with the role, although no casting has been announced as yet. Appointing a director (and indeed, actually announcing the film!) would be a step in the right direction...
