Mark Ruffalo to motion-capture Hulk

Mark Ruffalo has revealed that he will be doing what no other Hulk actor has done before him by motion capturing the big green giant for The Avengers.

While talking to Vulture , the actor talked about the new approach to the character, adding that while previous Hulk movies had presented the Hulk in CGI, none had used motion-capture technology before.

“I’m really excited,” he says. “No one’s ever played the Hulk exactly, they’ve always done CGI… They’re going to do the Avatar stop-action, stop-motion capture. So I’ll actually play the Hulk. That’ll be fun.”

Not that the CGI should overshadow the other work that Ruffalo will be doing on the film, namely playing tortured scientist Bruce Banner.

“I really love the first TV version of it, the Bill Bixby one,” he reveals, showing he's done his homework. “I’m gonna shoot for that a little bit. He was an everyman in it. He’s always on the run and trying to find love. It’s really a sympathetic character, before he turns into the Hulk and fucks everything up.”

The Avengers starts shooting in February 2011, directed by Joss Whedon, and will be released in 2012.
