George Clooney is held hostage in first trailer for Money Monster

It's been five years since Jodie Foster's last directorial effort, the barmy Mel Gibson-fronted The Beaver. While she's dabbled with TV, directing a handful of episodes on Orange Is The New Black and House Of Cards, now we've got our first look at the trailer for her next feature - political thriller Money Monster.

Alas, it doesn't feature an anthropomorphised creature akin to the Cookie Monster, instead its title refers to a political TV show hosted by George Clooney's character, investment honcho Lee Gates. The story kicks off when one of his viewers - played by Jack O'Connell - suffers a loss after heeding Gates' advice and decides the best course of action is to take him hostage. On air. Thankfully Julia Roberts is on hand as his producer to assuage the situation. Check out the trailer below...

For a first trailer it's a pretty packed affair. Clooney as always delivers a cool, schmoozin' charmer, with Roberts holding back tears and barking out orders like a pro. As for O'Connell, he's the one to watch, commanding attention for his bad-ass presence and spot-on accent.

Directed by Jodie Foster, and starring George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Jack O'Connell, Dominic West, Giancarlo Esposito, and Caitronia Balfe, Money Monster opens in the US on May 13 and the UK on May 27.
