Fincher TV

TV, eh? It’s the new black for film types. And the swarm hasn’t just brought thesps to TV roles (Kiefer Sutherland, Geena Davis, etc.), it’s also attracting creative types from behind the camera who obviously see the likes of CSI and it gets their brain boxes whirring.

Hot on the heels of word that Halle Berry is trying to get a comedy series set up on HBO is news that David Fincher has his sights set on US cable channel FX, the people behind The Shield and Nip/Tuck.

The Fight Clubber has teamed up with M*A*S*H film and TV veteran Larry Gelbart, and the pair are apparently developing a comedy. It doesn’t have a title yet, but is apparently about a psychologist in Hollywood (so definitely not a fantasy, then) who becomes the new hot shrink after his clients discover his brand of tough love.

If that’s not enough, Fincher is also popping up for a brief cameo as himself in FX’s new drama, Dirt. Don’t go holding your breath for the show just yet, though – the project still doesn’t have the greenlight and might not happen. But think about it – a comedy from a risk-taking network like FX with input from one of the funniest writers on TV and one of the leading directors? The possibilities are endless!
