Director David O. Russell has talked about his upcoming adaptation of video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune , calling it a movie mainly about family.
“This idea really turns me on that there’s a family that’s a force to be reckoned with in the world of international art and antiquity,” he tells 24 Frames . “[ A family ] that deals with heads of state and heads of museums and metes out justice.
“We’ll have the family dynamic, which we’ve done in a couple of movies now. And then you take that and put it on the bigger, more muscular stage of an international action picture, but also put all the character stuff in it. That’s a really cool idea to me.”
Sounds to us like Russell is just as interested in story and character interplay as he is dusting numerous bad guys.
Which certainly chimes with what we’ve already heard regarding the movie’s plot, with the director reportedly attempting to rope Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci in as co-stars for Mark Wahlberg’s titular hero.
Could Russell make the first decent video game movie for decades? He definitely seems to be making a bold go at it…
