Darren Aronofsky directing HBO's Hobgoblin TV pilot

Darren Aronofsky

Darren Aronofsky has settled on his next directing gig, having signed on to helm the pilot episode of HBO’s Hobgoblin .

Sadly not a show about killer imps, Hobgoblin is set in the second World War, and sees magicians and con men go up against Hitler and his forces.

This will be Aronofsky’s first foray into TV directing, though with HBO shows generally afforded generous budgets, we doubt he’ll feel the pinch too much.

The pilot has been written by Michael Chabon and his wife Ayelet Waldman, the former having contributed to the scripts for Spider-Man 2 and in-the-making sci-fi John Carter .

Waldman’s no newbie either, her novel Love And Other Impossible Pursuits having recently been turned into Natalie Portman’s The Other Woman.

Though Wolverine fans are still mourning Aronofsky's departure from The Wolverine , Hobgoblin could be considered something of a consolation prize - especially as we're likely to see Hobgoblin long before the comic-book sequel hits the big screen.
