Bigelow heads to the small screen

Looks like the buzz surrounding Kathryn Bigelow’s The Hurt Locker has bagged the director enough work to fill the next ten years of her working life.

As well as collaborating with Hurt Locker writer Mark Boal again on Triple Frontiers and helming Held By The Taliban , The Hollywood Reporter has heard that Bigelow will be directing HBO pilot The Miraculous Year . (A fitting title considering the year that Bigelow's having.)

Written by John Logan (of The Aviator and The Last Samurai ), Miraculous Year examines a New York family “through the lens of a charismatic, self-destructive Broadway composer”.

Bigelow, who is also set to executive produce the series, is no stranger to TV, having helmed episodes of Homicide: Life On The Street and Wild Palms .

But this will be the first time she’s directed a pilot, a significant responsibility as pilots usually establish the visual identity of a show.

Bigelow’s war pic The Hurt Locker has garnered nine nominations at this year’s Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director.

Excited to see what Bigelow will do with The Miraculous Year ?
