Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters

Divine inspiration’s in short supply in the sophomore outing for the teenage demigod, here afflicted with a crisis of confidence Thor Freudenthal’s so-so sequel seems to share. (For one thing, there are fewer big names popping up for cameos this time around.)

Tasked with finding the Golden Fleece inside the Bermuda Triangle, Logan Lerman’s hero quickly finds himself all at sea with an episodic plot, unremarkable characters and some variable CGI.

The final showdown whisks up the requisite excitement, but the open-ended coda feels like an optimistic throw of the dice from the franchise showing meagre signs of Harry Potter longevity.
