Eli Roth planning giant shark movie

Eli Roth may have identified his next directorial project, with Variety reporting that the horror specialist is planning a giant shark movie entitled Meg. The proposed film would be an adaptation of Steve Alten's New York Times bestseller about a prehistoric menace stalking the Californian coast.

The title refers to "megaladon", a wildly over-sized shark considered to be one of the largest predators in history, reaching lengths of up to 60 feet. The novel follows a pair of heroic / foolhardy adventurers who set out to take down the giant beast before it can scoff too many holidaymakers.

The film will relocate the action to the coast of China, a location change that apparently helped bring in co-financing from Gravity Pictures. Warner is currently in talks to bring Roth aboard the project, with negotiations thought to be at an advanced stage. Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water...
