Pixar announces Monsters Inc. 2

Rumours of a second Monsters Inc. movie have been bothering tight-lipped director Pete Docter for almost a year now.

Well, the Up and Monsters Inc. filmmaker can finally rest easy, as Pixar have officially announced a sequel is in the works.

They have set a release date of 16 November, 2012 for the furry follow-up. Expect to see all the regulars back, including John Goodman’s Sully and Billy Crystal’s Mike. No details of the plot have yet leaked, but we imagine they’ll be a closely guarded secret for now.

Meanwhile, Pixar have also set a June 2012 release date for new animated wonder Brave , which used to be called The Bear And The Bow .

Collider received what looks like the official plot summary for the film, and looks a bit like this...

Brave will feature the voices of Reese Witherspoon, Billy Connolly, Emma Thompson and Julie Walters. In the film, the impetuous, tangle-haired Merida, though a daughter of royalty, would prefer to make her mark as a great archer.

A clash of wills with her mother compels Merida to make a reckless choice, which unleashes unintended peril on her father’s kingdom and her mother’s life. Merida struggles with the unpredictable forces of nature, magic and a dark, ancient curse to set things right.

Looking forward to a Monsters Inc. 2 ? Or think Pixar should stick to original stories?
