Warner has pushed Andy Serkis' Jungle Book: Origins back by nearly a year, with the film now scheduled to arrive in cinemas on 6 October 2017.
The new delay means the film will arrive some two years after Disney's rival Jungle Book adaptation, a CG/live-action version being helmed by Jon Favreau, that will open next year.
Serkis has said that the film will be a darker take on Rudyard Kipling's classic tale, with much of the action to be filmed using the director's beloved performance-capture technology.
Production is already underway on the project, with Serkis having assembled a formidable voice cast including the likes of Benedict Cumberbatch, Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett and Naomie Harris.
Meanwhile, Disney's The Jungle Book will arrive in the US on 9 October 2015 and the UK on 16 October 2015, and will feature the voices of Bill Murray, Christopher Walken, Scarlett Johansson and Idris Elba.
