Tweets Of The Week

In a pre-Twitter, pre-internet age, it used to be that a show’s cancellation could almost be swept under the rug. Shows would disappear off TV without explanation or fanfare. Now every announcement is pored over fetishtically, and we’re all contributing more than ever to the outcry thanks to Twitter.

Take last Friday when a slew of cancellations/commissions were announced over in Americaland. The two biggest sci-fi casualties were The Secret Circle and Awake . Neither was particularly unexpected given how they’ve been performing, but Awake is a particularly cutting loss given the exceptional quality of the show. We’ve no doubt one day it will be habitually mentioned in the same breath as Firefly ... So here, in tribute to one of sci-fi’s smartest shows of recent memory, are some words of condolence for Awake:

@ killen8 on after locke %26 key on magic network in sky RT @Josh_Friedman I choose to live in a version of my life where #Awake is still on the air.

@ DamonLindelof . @killen8 Small consolation, but I believe AWAKE will still be talked about in a decade. And fondly.

@ KermodeMovie I think we should start campaigning for Awake: The Movie now. Think Fire Walk With Me ...

And if you haven’t heard, The Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb is now on Twitter. Follow him at @ MarcW , where he’s been tweeting Spidey pics like these:
