Soapdish and The Bodyguard were both big films in the early ‘90s – the former thanks to an in-retrospect awesome cast, the latter thanks to those Oscar nominations.
Now, both are being targeted for the remake treatment.
Paramount have hired actor-writer Ben Schwartz to pen a screenplay for a new version of Soapdish , the ‘day in the life of a soap’ comedy that originally starred Robert Downey Jr., Kevin Kline, Elizabeth Shue, Sally Field and Whoopi Goldberg.
Previously, Schwartz has been credited with writing a few episodes of Robot Chicken , and has appeared in The Other Guys and Parks And Recreation.
Meanwhile, Black List scriptwriters Jeremiah Friedman and Nick Palmer are currently working on a script for a remake of The Bodyguard.
That ’92 hamfest was most famous for Whitney Houston’s voice and that iconic song. But this new Bodyguard will apparently update the entire concept.
How? Well, Costner’s character is now an Iraq war vet tasked with protecting a star. And, apparently, social networking will also be involved. Oh, how times have changed.
