See how Beauty and the Beast's live action trailer compares to the animated original

The first trailer for Beauty and the Beast dropped online earlier this week, and while it was light on substantial footage it did a good job of reminding us of the 1991 animated classic. YouTuber studiOrbit has put the live-action teaser next to scenes from the universally beloved animated film and the similarities are, to say the least, striking.

Check it out below...

It's fascinating to see just how many callbacks to the original film are present in the live-action trailer. With next year's remake once again calling on Alan Menken - who scored the animated film - to provide the music, there will likely be lots more parallels between the old and the new in Bill Condon's final cut too. Considering Beauty and the Beast landed a Best Picture Oscar nomination back in 1991, that may not necessarily be a bad thing.

Directed by Bill Condon and starring Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, Emma Thompson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Ewan McGregor, Ian McKellen, Josh Gad, Kevin Kline, and Stanley Tucci, Beauty and the Beast is set for release on March 17, 2017.
