Noomi Rapace could be a Witch Hunter

Hansel and Gretel

Noomi Rapace, best-known for her electrifying turn in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and its sequels, could have landed the lead role in Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters .

A quirky action horror, the film’s story is set 15 years after the fairytale brother and sister had a run-in with a gingerbread-house-dwelling witch, and now hire themselves out as witch-killing bounty hunters.

Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s production company Gary Sanchez Prods were interested in making the flick last year, but we’ve not heard anything on it since then.

Word of Rapace’s involvement comes from Jeremy Renner, who spoke at the Venice Film Festival and confirmed that he was set to play Hansel, while Rapace would be starring as Gretel.

“If everything goes as it should, we will start filming Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters in the autumn of 2011,” Renner said.

Previously, we reported on Rapace’s trip to meet with Hollywood execs, and it sounds like that trip has paid off.

Though Hansel And Gretel has the worrying potential to end up like the dreadful Van Helsing , in the right hands (i.e. Rapace’s and Renner’s) it could be the coolest action flick based on a fairytale ever...
