Rent-a-hunk extraordinaire Matthew McConaughey has been added to Steven Soderbergh’s oh-so-manly cast for upcoming stripper movie Magic Mike .
McConaughey (never one to shy away from the opportunity to get his chest out) will play Dallas, a former dancer and owner of the Xquisite Club, where young Channing Tatum and Alex Pettyfer strut their stuff on a nightly basis.
Magic Mike tells the story of Tatum’s early experiences as a teenage stripper before making it big in Hollywood. Somewhat confusingly, Pettyfer’s character will mirror the real-life Tatum whilst Tatum himself will play his titular mentor, Mike.
The project only adds to McConaughey’s busy workload of late. Currently filming Lee Daniels thriller The Paperboy , he’ll also be seen in Bernie (Richard Linklater’s new one) and William Friedkin’s The Killer Joe before starring as a charismatic fugitive in Jeff Nichols’ upcoming film Mud .
There’s no word as yet as to when filming will begin on Magic Mike . Soderbergh’s Contagion opens in October, before another collaboration with Tatum arrives in January in the form of spy thriller Haywire .
