Jane Goldman writing Pinocchio for Robert Downey Jr. and Tim Burton

Jane Goldman has been hired to rework the script for Pinocchio , which has Tim Burton attached to direct and Robert Downey Jr. set to topline as Geppetto.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Goldman will work on a new draft of the screenplay, following an initial effort by Pushing Daisies writer Bryan Fuller.

Downey Jr. and Burton have been tentatively attached to the project since the beginning of 2012, and THR states that Goldman will be working some of RDJ’s notes into the script.

This take on the classic story by Carlo Collodi sees Geppetto on a mission to reunited with his hand-carved offspring.

Goldman has proved herself to be an screenwriter of considerable talent time and time again, bringing a bang-up-to-date slant to classic genre staples in the likes of Stardust , X-Men: First Class and The Woman In Black .

She’s currently hard at work on First Class sequel Days Of Future Past .

With this trio of talent involved, Warner Bros could have an extremely lucrative commercial prospect on their hands.

This version of Pinocchio is not to be confused with the Big Fish -esque Pinocchio prequel that Shawn Levy is attached to.

Guillermo del Toro also has a 3D stop-motion adaptation of Carlo Collodi's classic story in the works.
