James Wan will direct Aquaman and Robotech

It’s a big week for director James Wan. Fresh from steering Fast & Furious 7 to staggering box office success, Wan has officially been confirmed as the director for DC’s Aquaman, with THR reporting he has also closed a deal to helm Sony’s Robotech.

Wan was first linked to the Aquaman gig back in April, having hinted that he would decide upon his next project while working on The Conjuring 2. And from the looks of today’s report, it seems he has made his mind up…

“James is not only a great storyteller but can make action truly explode on the big screen, and Jason [Momoa] has a dynamic presence that commands your attention,” said Aquaman producer Charles Roven. “Together, they will bring an undeniable vitality and energy to this character as he headlines his first feature film.”

Once Wan is done with Aquaman, THR claims he will move on to Sony’s Robotech adaptation, based on the ‘80s anime series of the same name. No release date has been officially set for that one, although with Aquaman set to arrive on 27 July 2018, we’d expect it to arrive one or two years after that.
