James Franco joins Jason Statham in Sylvester Stallones Homefront

James Franco has signed up to star with Jason Statham in Sylvester Stallone’s next action-thriller, Homefront .

And for the first time since Spider-Man 3 , Franco will be playing a villain - here an insidious meth tycoon.

Statham, meanwhile, is the film’s hero, Phil Broker, an ex-DEA agent who moves to a quiet town with his family. But something from his past won’t let him rest.

“Sly’s script is fantastic,” says executive producer Avi Lerner. “James and Jason are remarkable actors and Gary really knows how to direct this type of film.”

Written and produced by Stallone, Homefront is being directed by Kiss The Girls filmmaker Gary Fleder.

From that plotline, it sounds like stock action stuff to us, but with Statham and Franco going head-to-head, this could be worth checking out.

Production kicks off in September in New Orleans.
