Bourne Supremacy and Ultimatum director Paul Greengrass is working on a biopic about Martin Luther King Jr. entitled Memphis .
His project adds to a line-up of two other King films that are currently in various stages of development, including a biopic from Steven Spielberg, and Selma from Precious director Lee Daniels.
Greengrass’ film will be set during King’s visit to Memphis in support of the black sanitation workers strike.
It is here that King was shot on the balcony of his motel room, an event that stirred nationwide chaos as riots seized the streets.
Greengrass is yet to get the official go ahead for his script, though producer Scott Rudin is apparently attempting to set things up over at Focus Features.
No doubt that his central subject is fascinating, but it’ll be most interesting to see how Greengrass plays out the numerous conspiracy theories all attached to King’s murder.
