MGM’s remake of The Magnificent Seven has added another major name to its star-studded line up, as Deadline reports that Peter Sarsgaard is now in final negotiations to appear. With the majority of casting news focusing on the titular squad of heroic do-gooders, Sarsgaard’s involvement looks set to poison the well as he’s in line to play heinous baron, Bartholomew Bogue.
Should the deal get squared away, Sargaard will lead a band of baddies who lay waste to a small Mexican village. When the wife of one of his victims takes a stand, she hires a bounty hunter (Denzel Washington) and his group of rogueish outlaws to protect the town.
As the title suggests, The Magnificent Seven is a remake of the 1960 movie which was itself a redo of Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai. Much like those earlier iterations the new version has an impressive line up including Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio, Haley Bennett, Luke Grimes, Byung-hun Lee and Matt Bomer. One noticeable absence is Jason Momoa, who has since dropped out of the project due to the size of his part.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by John Lee Hancock and Nic Pizzolatto The Magnificent Seven will mosey into theaters on January 13, 2017.
