Dan Aykroyd says Ghostbusters 3 could begin filming in 2014

Dan Aykroyd's tireless crusade to get Ghostbusters 3 continues to rumble on, with the star telling ABC News that he feels "reinvigorated" by the work that has been completed so far.

“I know that we’re expecting half of the screenplay to be completed very soon," says Aykroyd, enthusiastically. "It should be into production by the fall and be shooting by the new year.

“It’s very exciting," he continues. "The Higgs Boson and the particle theories, gluons and mesons, that really gives us a scientific base in terms of our fictional storytelling, to open up to another dimension and have something horrible coming through.”

With Ivan Reitman thought to be in place to direct and a script seemingly coming along, having been contributed to by seemingly every aspiring screenwriter in Hollywood, could Aykroyd's labour of love finally be coming to fruition?

We'll remain a little sceptical until we actually get news of an official greenlight and release date, but at least this latest update is a little more interesting than the ongoing will-he / won't-he debate over Bill Murray's potential involvement. Keep those fingers crossed, Dan...
