Age Of Ultron scores second biggest debut in history

Having opened to the tune of $200 million at the global box office, Avengers: Age Of Ultron fell just short of beating its predecessor’s box office record, bringing in just over $187 million in its debut weekend in the US.

The film’s performance leaves it some way short of Avengers Assemble’s $207.4 million opening, although it is still enough to make it the second biggest debut weekend in US box office history. So not exactly a disaster!

Studio projections had pitched Age Of Ultron at opening even bigger, with $210 million the figure being bandied around before the weekend. It has been suggested that Saturday night’s “Fight Of The Century” between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao may have done some of the damage…

In any case, Marvel still occupies the one and two spots in box office opening weekends. Don’t bet against Infinity War making its way in there when the first part lands on 4 May 2018.
