Sony remaking The Craft

Another day another remake announcement, with THR reporting that Sony is planning a do-over for teen witchcraft classic, The Craft. Get ready for some serious ‘90s nostalgia!

For those unfamiliar with the 1996 original, The Craft followed a trio of Catholic schoolgirls dabbling with the occult in their spare time. All harmless fun, until a genuine witch joins their gang and imbues them all with otherworldly abilities…

According to the report, the new film will be directed by Honeymoon helmer Leigh Janiak, who will also pen the script alongside co-writer Phil Graziadei. Original producer Doug Wick is also on board to oversee the film’s new incarnation.

Whether or not the film willl benefit from being remade, it’s still exciting to see a female director with genuine horror credentials given the chance to tell such a female-focused story. Consider us quietly optimistic about this one.
