Jeff Goldblum to return for Independence Day 2

Roland Emmerich continues to drip-feed information about the forthcoming Independence Day 2 , confirming that Jeff Goldblum will return for the long-awaited sequel.

During a Q&A with Movies.com , the director and screenwriter revealed that Goldblum would be reprising his role as jittery computer hot-shot, David Levinson, alongside fellow returnee Bill Pullman.

Presumably Pullman’s President Whitmore is no longer in office, with the film being set some 17 years after the original, so it will be interesting to see how his character fits into proceedings.

Meanwhile, Emmerich reiterated that Will Smith would be unlikely to star (largely on account of his paycheque), but that he is still hoping to persuade him to pop up in a cameo capacity.

Emmerich has still to confirm for certain whether the film will be his next directing gig, but what we do know is that the film will land in US cinemas on 3 July 2015, with a UK date to be confirmed.
