Your old PS4 will get an HDR-compatibility update

You won't have to buy a PS4 Pro to get some of the fancy new visuals Sony showed off at the PlayStation Meeting. The company confirmed that all existing PS4 consoles will receive HDR monitor support via an upcoming system update next week.

It may not mean increased frame rates, more detailed scenes, or higher resolutions, but HDR does significantly increase the variety of colors and brightness that you'll see from your games for a more vibrant image. Now you just have to get an HDR-compatible display, if you don't already have one.

I got a BA in journalism from Central Michigan University - though the best education I received there was from CM Life, its student-run newspaper. Long before that, I started pursuing my degree in video games by bugging my older brother to let me play Zelda on the Super Nintendo. I've previously been a news intern for GameSpot, a news writer for CVG, and now I'm a staff writer here at GamesRadar.
