Tom Hiddleston will star in King Kong prequel

King Kong origin story Skull Island has secured an A-list name to head up its ensemble, with Tom Hiddleston set to take the lead in the forthcoming prequel.

The project has also officially announced the appointment of a director, with The Kings Of Summer helmer Jordan Vogt-Roberts set to step behind the camera.

The new film will be scripted by Godzilla ’s Max Borenstein and will be set almost entirely upon the titular island, on which Kong and a whole host of other extraordinary creatures will be found.

“Previous works have touched on the island,” reads the official release, “but staying on and exploring this mysterious and dangerous place offers Legendary the opportunity to take audiences deeper inside this rich world.”

Let’s hope the creepy-crawlies of Peter Jackson’s vision make a return appearance… truly horrifying scenes. Skull Island will open in the UK on 4 November 2016.
