Guillermo del Toro's next film confirmed

Guillermo del Toro is no slouch - currently contending with one of the busiest slates in Hollywood - and his next feature as director has been confirmed by Deadline .

Crimson Peak
, a “throwback” ghost story will be his next, after he has completed work on Pacific Rim and directed the pilot of TV series The Strain (based on a book he co-wrote with Chuck Hogan).

Like Pacific Rim , Crimson Peak will be produced by Legendary Pictures, and it’s expected to shoot in early 2014.

Del Toro told Deadline that the film will be a “very set-oriented, classical but at the same time modern take on the ghost story. It will allow me to play with the conventions of the genre I know and love, and at the same time subvert the old rules.”

And he’s planning to honour some monumental titles from the genre, with The Haunting , The Innocents , The Omen , The Exorcist and The Shining mentioned as touchstones.

Pacific Rim
opens in the UK on 12 July 2013, and the viral campaign is in full swing .
