One Mother of a spy

Mums... great aren’t they? They get up, make the brekkie, throw together a couple of packed lunches, bundle the ankle-biters in the people-carrier, dump the darlings at the school gate then off to work…

But what if work wasn’t three mornings a week at the local HSBC or mopping up after grannies at the day-care centre? What if work was cracking terrorist cells and defusing a tricky timing device on a ticking bomb?

Disney have cracked open the cheque book for Mother Of Invention, a script by Joe D’Ambrosia and Tom Teves - two of the team behind animated TV show Astro Boy. The story follows the life of a regular Californian mum, whose two chirpy kids have no idea that their parent is a spy.

The tale is said to be based on a real-life bread-baking, all-American mother who just happens to dabble in espionage in her spare time. The writers met their muse at a party and with ‘Jane Bond’ all set for retirement, she gave her blessing for them to scribble the script.

Although they’re a little far from casting decisions just yet, totalfilm.com expects an all-out cat-fight from the likes of Catherine Zeta-Jones and Nicole Kidman for the role…
