Hugh Jackman As Houdini?

He tried his hand at magic in The Prestige, and now it looks like Hugh Jackman is up to tackling the world’s most famous illusionist – Harry Houdini.

It won’t be on camera, though: this version, according to Fox News , will be a Broadway musical based on Houdini’s life.

Regular Tim Burton collaborator Danny Elfman is apparently hard at work on the music for the show, while former magazine editor and radio host Kurt Anderson has been tapped to crank out the first draft of the script.

Learning Magic Tricks

For his part, Jackman is said to be perfecting some of Houdini’s most famous routines for the show, which may also get consulting help from the talented types at Cirque du Soleil.

Houdini, born Ehrich Weiss in 1874, was a world-renowned magician, escapologist and, above all, showman. Another driving interest was investigating spiritualists – an element which crept into The Prestige’s characters.

We know Jackman can sing and dance – but can he pull off stage magic without camera tricks? We’ll have to wait at least a year to find out.
