First poster lands online for 300: Rise Of An Empire

300: Rise Of An Empire has released a brand new poster online, featuring Sullivan Stapleton's Greek General standing amid a bloody ocean.

It's an eye-catching new image, and one that looks to capture Frank Miller's stylised aesthetic perfectly. Meanwhile, General Themistocles looks every bit as badass as Leonidas…

The new film will tell of events happening concurrently with those of the first film, as well as charting the backstory of the brutal Persian God-King, Xerxes.

Whereas much of the action in 300 took place on land, the sequel will focus upon a crucial sea battle between the Greeks and the invading Persian hordes, with Themistocles clashing with Xerxes' trusted General, Artemisia (Eva Green).

Directed by Noam Murro and co-starring Lena Headey, Rodrigo Santoro and David Wenham, 300: Rise Of An Empire will open in the US on 7 March 2014, with a UK date to be confirmed.
