Poltergeist remake director to helm Five Nights at Freddy's flick

I don't know what's more surprising: that a lo-fi indie horror game about a night-watch job at a deadly Chuck E. Cheese rip-off would be on its fourth entry in less than a year, or that Hollywood would actually make it into a movie. The world's most unlikely film adaptation ever seems to be one step closer to reality, as Deadline reports that Warner Bros. has signed on Poltergeist remake director Gil Kenan to take the reigns on a live-action Five Nights at Freddy's movie.

According to Deadline, Gil Kenan, whose prior work includes the Steven Spielberg and Robert Zemeckis produced animated film Monster House, and the adaptation of the young adult novel City of Ember, will direct the film and co-write the script alongside Tyler Burton Smith. Smith is known for his writing work on video games such as Prototype 2, Sleeping Dogs, and the upcoming Remedy action title Quantum Break.

The film adaptation of the breakout indie horror hit is still very early in development, but with a director on board, this project is well on its way to scaring the pants off audiences in theaters everywhere.
