Sony has re-confirmed the arrival of LittleBigPlanet Karting, this time announcing the upcoming racer with a brand new trailer and a fresh new details from its developers at United Front Games. Watch Sackboy and team get the ModNation Racers treatment in their debut karting video:
LBP Karting was semi-confirmed via Twitter last month (Sony confirms LittleBigPlanet Karting), but now Sony has offered more insight as to how Media Molecule's platforming franchise will make the jump to the kart racing format. According to company's press release, the genre swap will be handled by the ModNation Racers studio United Front Studios. It will star Sackboy, Sackgirl, and Sack-friends in a karting adventure that takes place within Media Molecule's Craftworld universe. Races will take the form of smash 'em up battles, objective-based matches, and all-out races - all of which can be enjoyed via local split-screen or online multiplayer.
In sticking to the creative spirit of both ModNation Racers and the LittleBigPlanet franchise, LBP Karting will allow players to fully customize their racing experience by designing the track, its racers, and the course's governing rules; as well as include the ability to upload their creations for others to enjoy.
"Our goal with LBP Karting has been fairly simple – provide a fast-paced experience that captures the best of classic karting gameplay, married with the unbridled creativity of LBP," said United Front Games Senior Producer James Grieve on the US PlayStation Blog, explaining, “Tons of familiar LBP gadgets will be present, along with a new toolbox specifically tailored to allow for building in LBP Karting’s 3D world. Along with fan-favorite racing and battle modes, players will be able to modify the rules of the game itself to create completely new modes and challenges. All of this is wrapped up in a community experience that should have LBP fans feeling right at home.
The ModNation Racers teams certainly seems like a good choice for Media Molecule. What are your first impressions of Sackboy's karting experiment?
