Imelda Staunton and Paddy Considine star in new trailer for Pride: watch now

A new trailer has arrived online for Pride , Matthew Warchus’s account of a small Welsh village’s experience of the miners' strike, and the group of gay and lesbian activists who allied themselves to the local cause.

Set in 1984, the film picks up against the backdrop of Thatcherite Britain at its most bleak. Recognising that the miners face similarly unfair odds as they have faced themselves, an idealistic group of gay campaigners head off to Wales to lend their support.

However, it turns out that the local miners aren’t necessarily the most reconstructed of thinkers, and it soon becomes clear that the activists will have some hearts and minds to win before they can even begin to help with making a stand.

Take a look, below…

While the general tone might seem overly reminiscent of the likes of The Full Monty or Brassed Off , a powerhouse British cast and a sharp script should hopefully guarantee some emotional heft behind the culture-clash chuckles.

Directed by Warchus and co-starring Imelda Staunton, Paddy Considine, Bill Nighy and Dominic West, Pride will open in the UK on 12 September 2014.
