The Terminator could finally be back. If Universal have anything to do with it, that is.
After reports last year that the rights to the Terminator franchise, long in contention, went to Pacificor for $29.5m, Universal are looking to approach the company about resurrecting the franchise with director Justin Lin at the helm.
After McG took an underwhelming stab at the series in 2009 with Terminator Salvation , the future of the franchise looked uncertain. While McG has always been keen on creating a trilogy, it seems that has now officially fallen into the gutter.
Sad, because his ideas for bringing Linda Hamilton and Robert Patrick back into the mix sounded relatively interesting – even if Salvation left much to be desired.
Most interestingly is the possibility that Lin, best known for his work on the Fast And Furious films, could be working from the awesome-sounding script treatments by James Cameron collaborator William Wisher. He'd be crazy not to.
As any fans of the first two Terminator films will know, the future is never certain. Let's see where this road takes us.
