Gnomeo & Juliet jumped to the top of the US box office this weekend after three weeks on release.
The animated update of Shakespeare’s tragedy took a further $14m, beating newcomer Hall Pass. The latter defunct to second with an underwhelming $13.4m, while last week’s number one Unknown dropped to fourth.
Jennifer Aniston comedy Just Go With It proved immovable in fourth ($11.1m), while I Am Number Four rounded out the top five in fifth ($11m).
Justin Bieber’s surprisingly well-reviewed Never Say Never also proved immovable, sticking to sixth place ($9.2m), as did newly-crowned Oscar winner The King’s Speech in seventh ($7.6m).
Big Mommas began its gradual and inevitable descent through the chart, slipping from fifth to eighth ($7.5m), while Nic Cage’s latest action-fest Drive Angry 3D entered the charts in ninth with a frankly embarrassing $5.1m.
The Roommate rounded off proceedings in tenth ($2m).
