Ridley Scott’s The Martian has released a first viral teaser online, in which Matt Damon’s astronaut Mark Watney presents a special video diary, introducing the viewer to the Hermes spacecraft and its crew.
It’s a neat way of introducing the film’s key players without giving too much away as Watney does a quick meet and greet with his fellow crew-mates.Taking us on this mission to Mars are Jessica Chastain, Michael Pena, Sebastian Stan, Kate Mara and Aksel Hennie, all of whom make their bow here.

If you’re not familiar with the book the film is based on, Watney won’t have this much company for long, as the expedition sees him abandoned on Mars during a particularly fearsome dust storm. So begins a survival tale against the odds as our hero attempts to stay alive long enough to entertain the possibility of rescue.
Directed by Scott and co-starring Kristen Wiig, Sean Bean, Jeff Daniels and Chiwetel Ejiofor, The Martian will open in the US on 25 November 2015 and the UK two days later.
