Upcoming movies in 2026

The Dog Stars

Release date: August 28, 2026

Ridley Scott's next film is set after a devastating flu that almost drove humanity extinct, and it stars Jacob Elordi as a pilot named Hig, with Josh Brolin playing an ex-marine named Bangley. Margaret Qualley, Guy Pearce, and Benedict Wong round out the cast. The sci-fi movie is an adaptation of Peter Heller's novel of the same name. The first trailer teases a bleak, intense post-apocalyptic ride and the first reactions are very positive too.

I'm so excited that we finally have a release date for this upcoming comedy. Wile E. Coyote is taking ACME to court after all his schemes to get the Roadrunner over the years have backfired. Mixing live-action with animation, the style of this one looks very appealing to a Who Framed Roger Rabbit fangirl such as myself. Initially this was shelved back in 2023 by Warner Bros however, thankfully the film is now getting the release it deserves.

Resident Evil

Austin Abrams as Bryan in Resident Evil

Release date: September 18, 2026

We absolutely love the Resident Evil video games. I mean, in terms of survival horror and zombie thrills Capcom holds the crown thanks to it's legendary franchise. So, needless to say, we are excited for this upcoming reboot that is also being helmed by Weapons and Barbarian director Zach Cregger. Set on the periphery of Resident Evil 2, the movie follows a hospital courier charged with making a special delivery to Racoon City. What follows is the night from hell...

Digger

Tom Cruise in Digger

Release date: October 2, 2026

Digger is an upcoming Tom Cruise movie directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu. Now, as a big Birdman fan, I'm always excited about Alejandro G. Iñárritu's work, but Digger sounds especially fun. The story revolves around a billionaire who causes a massive environmental crisis, and his wild mission to convince everyone that he is somehow humanity's savior. That premise is wild and sadly pretty relevant (environmental crisis-wise at least).

Street Fighter Movie

Chun-Li in the Street Fighter movie

Release date: October 15, 2026

We've had plenty of Street Fighter movies already come our way over the years. Some have been good, some have been bad. And, hopefully the upcoming 2026 Street Fighter Movie is one of the good ones. Bad Trip's Kitao Sakurai is set to direct the flick, and so far, its story is seemingly taking inspiration from the game Street Fighter II: The World Warrior. The cast is filled with stars and is massive, featuring the likes of Jason Momoa and 50 Cent. Fingers crossed we get a fun flick!

Clayface

Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen/ Clayface in Clayface

Release date: October 23, 2026

One of the upcoming DC movies scheduled for 2026 is Clayface, and fans of body horror will want to pay attention. With a script written by horror hit Mike Flanagan, and helmed by Woman in Black director James Watkins, it seems like we'll be getting the spookiest superhero movie around as we follow the story of a disfigured actor turning his body into clay. Very exciting stuff, and with such a strong team, we are expecting big things from this future flick.

Godzilla Minus Zero

Godzilla Minus Zero trailer still sees kaiju in New York City

Release date: November 3, 2026

The long-awaited sequel to Godzilla Minus One is finally heading to screens. This time set post-World War Two, the action begins two years after the first movie. Directed once again by Takashi Yamazaki, the film sees most of the original cast return, including Ryunosuke Kamiki, Minami Hamabe, and Hidetaka Yoshioka.

The Hungers Games: Sunrise on the Reaping

Haymish Abernathy in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping

Release date: November 20, 2026

Get ready Hunger Games fans, as there's another prequel movie on the way. Set 24 years before the first Hunger Games movie, Sunrise on the Reaping follows a young Haymitch Abernathy (yes, that's right, Katniss and Peeta's future mentor) head to the 50th Hunger Games to fight other kids to the death. However, in celebration of the Second Quarter Quell, the Capitol orders each district to send four players each, doubling the stakes. The film also welcomes back fan favourite characters Effy Trinket, Wiress, President Snow, and Plutarque Heavensbee, who are all played by different actors to make up for the time jump backwards.

The Adventures of Cliff Booth

Brad Pitt in The Adventures of Cliff Booth

Release date: November 25, 2026

The Adventures of Cliff Booth, directed by David Fincher and written by Quentin Tarantino, is a spin-off sequel of sorts to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Plot details are still fairly scarce, though we do know that it takes place in 1977 and sees Brad Pitt reprise his role as stuntman Cliff Booth. It'll hit theaters before heading over to Netflix.

Avengers: Doomsday

James Marsden as Cyclops in Avengers Doomsday

Release date: December 18, 2026

Avengers: Doomsday is the first out of the two planned Avengers movies that are pretty much Marvel Phase 6's big ticket items. Doctor Doom is the new big bad, and he is being played by none other than Tony Stark actor Robert Downey Jr. Currently, the plot is being kept under wraps, but the first trailers have seen plenty of Marvel heroes teaming up to face the new big bad. Marvel fans will want to mark their calendars for this new film.

Dune: Part Three

Zendaya as Chani in Dune 3

Release date: December 18, 2026

The final part of Denis Villeneuve's sci-fi epic is releasing at the end of 2026, and we couldn't be more excited about it. Dune: Part Three will bring us back to the grand space opera and see Paul Atreides return. The trailers tease an epic conclusion to the story where Paul has gone mad with power...

Werwulf

Willem Dafoe in Robert Eggers' Nosferatu (2024)

Release date: December 25, 2026

Robert Eggers is coming back to the big screen at the end of 2026 and he is bringing a new monster with him. That's right, after giving us witches in The Witch, and vampires in Nosferatu, the acclaimed director is now moving onto werewolves. It will be another period piece for the director set in 13th-century England. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lily-Rose Depp, and Willem Dafoe are also set to appear in the movie, so we are excited to see what all the talent will bring us.

Jumanji: Open World

Jack Black in Jumanji: The Next Level

Release date: December 25, 2026

Jumanji 3 has been a long time coming, but after years of waiting, we now know that it'll be heading our way in December 2026. At CinemaCon, it was confirmed that the movie would be titled Jumanji: Open World. Footage shown behind closed doors revealed the Jumanji world spilling into the real world, and the main characters playing different versions of their avatars.

Upcoming movies in 2027

Sonic the Hedgehog 4

Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles in Sonic 3

Release date: March 19, 2027

Kicking off a very exciting year for video game movies is Sonic the Hedgehog 4. That's right, you just can't keep the speedy blue star down, as we are getting another sequel to the hit films. It's a tad too early for full story details on this one yet; however, the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 post-credits scenes did hint at beloved characters from the games making an appearance in the new movie, and that Shadow has somehow survived as well. So, yeah, we are still plenty hyped even without a ton of information at our fingertips. While we wait for more news, you can check out our Sonic the Hedgehog 3 review as well.

The Legend of Zelda

Link and Zelda in The Legend of Zelda movie

Release date: May 7, 2027

Nintendo fans have been waiting for a proper The Legend of Zelda movie for years, and now 2027 is looking to answer their prayers. Director of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and the Maze Runner movies, Wes Ball, is on board to helm the upcoming adventure film, and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth has been cast as Link, while Bo Bragason will be portraying Princess Zelda. Currently, we also know that Ganon will be the movie's main villain and that Link will be protecting Hyrule in some kind of way against the warlord. It's all very exciting, and we can't wait for a trailer to drop.

Star Wars: Starfighter

Ryan Gosling and Flynn Gray in Star Wars: Starfighter

Release date: May 28, 2027

Ryan Gosling is finally getting his big Star Wars moment in the upcoming Star Wars movie, Star Wars: Starfighter. Set to hit the big screen on May 28, 2027, not much is known about this one. However, we have found out that it will take place after The Rise of Skywalker and that it's a standalone adventure that explores a period in the Star Wars timeline that we haven't seen before (exciting, right?). Shawn Levy is signed on to direct, and The Adam Project writer, Jonathan Tropper, is penning the script. Filming has also already begun, so it seems like we'll be getting more news and teasers for this film soon as well, folks!

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse

Release date: June 18, 2027

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is the final installment of the Spider-Verse trilogy (aka some of the best animated movies of all time), so you'll definitely want to mark your calendars for it. The last film in the series that we got came out in 2023, so the wait has been a long one that will hopefully pay off come June in 2027. The upcoming film's story will start immediately after the events of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, with Miles Morales still trapped in an alternate universe. If you need a refresher before the new flick, you can read our Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse review for a quick recap.

A Minecraft Sequel

A Minecraft Movie chicken jockey scene

Release date: July 23, 2027

One of the biggest movies of 2025 was A Minecraft Movie, so of course, Warner Bros wasted no time in announcing that a sequel would be heading our way. Set to release in min-2027, A Minecraft Movie 2 will be bringing viewers back to the blocky and colorful world that is full of creativity and some pesky exploding Creepers, too. The film will be titled A Minecraft Sequel, fittingly enough, and Jack Black confirmed at CinemaCon that production would begin on May 2.

A Quiet Place Part 3

A Quiet Place Part 2

Release date: July 30, 2027

I'm a massive horror fan, so of course I had to put A Quiet Place Part 3 on this list. The sequel to 2020's A Quiet Place Part 2 and officially the final flick in the trilogy, this movie is set to wrap up the tale of the deadly monsters invading Earth with their insane hearing abilities. Not much is known about the plot yet, but we do know that Emily Blunt and Cillian Murphy are making a comeback.

The Conjuring: First Communion

Vera Farmiga as Lorraine Warren in The Conjuring 2

Release date: September 10, 2027

That's right, The Conjuring franchise isn't over yet. In fact, The Conjuring: First Communion is taking us back to the very beginning as it's a prequel following a young Ed and Lorraine Warren. We don't yet know which case the two will be taking on, but there has been speculation that the Amityville haunting might be explored. I'll keep you posted as soon as I hear any more details.

Gremlins 3

Gizmo in Gremlins

Release date: November 19, 2027

Gremlins 3 seemed like it would only be a dream for years, but it's in fact very real and is now schedule to be coming to cinemas in late 2027. It's about time Gizmo got his cute little butt back on the big screen. There are no plot details currently available for this upcoming movie just yet, but we do know that Chris Columbus is directing. Since it's near December time as well, maybe we will see Gremlins 3 go back to the original's Christmas roots. We'll have to keep our eyes peeled and wait and see.

Frozen 3

Josh Gad as Olaf in Frozen

Release date: November 24, 2027

Out of all the new Disney movies heading our way, Frozen 3 is our most anticipated 2027 release. Not much is known about the upcoming film, but Kristen Bell, Josh Gad, and Idina Menzel are all confirmed to be returning to voice the main cast, which is a massive relief. Since Frozen 2 ended with Anna becoming queen while Elsa is now hanging out with the spirits, we are guessing the new film will follow Anna trying to come to terms with her new role. We'll update you as soon as we know more.

Avengers: Secret Wars

A logo for Avengers: Secret Wars

Release date: December 17, 2027

One of the biggest events for superhero fans is the release of the second Avengers movie, Avengers: Secret Wars. This is the follow-up to Avengers: Doomsday, so until that film releases, we won't have any idea of the plot for this one. There are comic books for us to get some clues on what it could be, such as the destruction of the Prime Marvel Universe (Earth-616), and Doctor Doom potentially reconstructing Battleworld. However, until Marvel actually confirms its plot, we are pretty much in the dark for now.

The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum

The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King

Release date: December 17, 2027

I'm the biggest Lord of the Rings nerd, so I'm both excited and very scared about the upcoming movie The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. While the original trilogy from Peter Jackson still stands as some of the best movies of all time, The Hobbit and The Rings of Power haven't been as big hits. Hopefully, The Hunt for Gollum, which is being directed by Jackson, will set us back on track. The film is based on the appendices of Tolkien's novel and will take place primarily 17 years after Bilbo's birthday (after Bilbo gave Frodo the One Ring). It will revolve around the events of Gandalf and Aragorn searching for Gollum, who has also been captured by Sauron at this point. If you need more information on its place in the wider universe, you can read our guide on The Lord of the Rings timeline.
