James McAvoy & Daniel Radcliffe turn Frankenstein into an 80s buddy movie

Fox has debuted the first two trailers for Victor Frankenstein, its reboot on the classic yarn starring James McAvoy as the madcap Frankenstein and Daniel Radcliffe as his ever-faithful assistant Igor. To keep things fresh, the main story beats stem from Igor's experiences working for the unorthodox scientist whose pioneering work in immortality research lead him to some unique discoveries.

Taking its cues from Mary Shelley's literary classic, the script hails from Max Landis whose writing style playfully riffs on typical genre norms. As expected, the pair collaborate on a new experiment and things inevitably go awry. Along with the sight of an updated - and rather Brundle-esque - creature from this bumbled incident, Victor's relationship with Igor also gets a comedy makeover. Check out the trailers below:

With McAvoy and Radcliffe on top form, it's like watching a buddy comedy from the '80s... set in a Victorian-era laboratory. Their sparks of camaraderie amid total monster chaos paint this as a much more promising outing than I, Frankenstein, Hollywood's previous attempt to resurrect the franchise. Directed by Paul McGuigan, and co-starring Jessica Brown Findlay, Freddie Fox and Andrew Scott, Victor Frankenstein opens in the US on November 25, followed by a UK release on December 4.
