Do I need a Prime membership for Prime Day board game deals?
You will need to have a Prime membership to get access to Prime Day board game deals, as the event and its discounts are exclusive to Prime members. While this a sweet perk for those who are already subscribed to Amazon Prime, it is a bit of a bummer for those who aren't.
Of course, you do have alternatives if you still want to save money on your favorite board games. To capitalize on the Prime Day hype, some retailers run similar sales around the same time. There's often an impressive range of titles that wind up in Amazon's Prime Day board game deals, covering a broad array of genres and pricing. Regardless of whether you like chill puzzle games or prefer to turn your friends against each other with some old-fashioned social deduction, you should find a bargain or two worth pursuing.
What exactly can you expect, though? I've been covering sales like this for close to seven years now, so here are my thoughts on the upcoming event:
In terms of whether we'll see savings from recent releases (such as Gwent), I think a lot of it comes down to how recently they hit shelves. If the game in question came out toward the first half of the year, chances are pretty good. Finspan will absolutely get a price cut come Prime Day, for example - actually, it already has.
However, if the game has only just come out or is from a smaller developer, it's a bit more touch and go. That's because Amazon doesn't always get brand-new titles in straight away, and if it does, they'll usually cost more than they do at independent retailers. The likes of Miniature Market in the US or the UK's Magic Madhouse traditionally slash the cost of big-hitters from day one, though, so keep an eye on them for games that are hot off the presses.
