Forget the Pro, Prime Day iPad deals are hitting the new M4 Air hardest this week
Prime Day iPad deals offer their best value in the middle of Apple's lineup
Prime Day iPad deals usually offer the opportunity to secure an upgrade for a record-low price. That's not the case this year. While discounts are hitting the shelves, we're yet to see returns to some these tablets' historic rates, with the iPad A16 still a little way off its $279 target.
That's until you get to the iPad Air. With its lowest prices of the year so far (and having only been on the shelves a matter of months), this is where the gold is this Prime Day.
With an M4 at the helm, and a 13-inch option available, only the ultra-power users will need to move beyond this incredibly potent device. Having spent the last five years with an Air at the helm, even older, weaker models still hold up in 2026 - the M4 is more than enough power for day to day productivity and gaming.
You'll find all the latest Prime Day iPad deals just below, with those Airs in pride of place of course.

The iPad Air 11 inch M4 is currently $80 off, which is nothing to sniff at given the model just launched in March this year. Don't expect this to get any cheaper!

If you're after the larger Air M4, it's currently $100 off - which matches its record-low price from last month, but doesn't go any further.

Coming into Prime Day, the cheapest iPad is still down at $299. That's impressive seeing as more expensive models have started travelling further up the price scale in anticipation for the main event. I've only seen it cheaper a couple of times, moving down to $271 over Black Friday last year.

The 11-inch iPad Pro has also resisted price increases this week, holding firm with this $100 discount. While it's been $799 once so far this year, this is about as cheap as the 256GB model has been over the last few months.

The larger 13-inch iPad Pro is also holding onto its $100 discount ahead of Prime Day iPad deals. We're still $50 away from the record set back in January, though.

The iPad Pro's 13-inch M4 model is a chipset behind the M5, but is also running $150 cheaper than the above M5. That's the lowest price we've seen on Amazon to date, although whether it's a one-off for today remains to be seen.

Which iPad should you buy this Prime Day?
Before we start, there are four lines of iPad you'll want to be aware of this Prime Day; the M5 Pro, M4 Air, A16 base, and A17 Mini. The first two are your productivity machines, tablets built with Apple's premium M silicon that can withstand more demanding workflows, multitasking, gaming scenarios, and heavier apps like Adobe.
The base model is the most popular iPad come Prime Day. It's the cheapest Apple tablet available, offering an entry level device for those who just want a bigger screen for streaming, emails, casual browsing, note-taking, and lighter games. This is where I often see discounts running off the shelves the fastest.
The iPad Mini is your compact companion, with a slightly more powerful chipset than the base model occupying a slot underneath Apple's more performative M chips. The smaller screen means it's less ideal for work and multi-tasking, but it still holds its own in the gaming arena.
What are the latest iPad models?
The iPad models you need to watch out for this Prime Day are the following:
iPad A16
iPad Mini 7th Gen (A17 Pro)
iPad Air M4 (11-inch)
iPad Air M4 (13-inch)
iPad Pro M5 (11-inch)
iPad Pro M5 (13-inch)
What time of year is cheapest to buy an iPad?
In general, the absolute cheapest time to buy an iPad is when its next-generation model has just released. This is when we see the heaviest discounts on each device (just look at the rates on the M3 iPad Air over the last few weeks of its life). However, these savings only last a very short amount of time and stock is incredibly fast-moving. If you're looking to buy a new generation iPad, the cheapest times of the year are July, October, and November.
Why October? Amazon has also been doubling up its Prime Day efforts in recent years, adding another sale in the Fall. In general, these events later in the year will yield slightly lower prices on iPads than the summer. Each tablet has been on the shelves a few months longer, and the holiday shopping frenzy can sometimes squeeze those rates even further.
So when should you buy an iPad? If you're looking for the absolute lowest price possible and you don't need a new device right away, I'd recommend waiting for Black Friday. However, the price differences aren't major, and considering there's generally only around $50 in it, those who need a tablet sooner rather than later wouldn't be fools to shop in the summer.
