Mortal Kombat PS Vita Developer Demo

Mortal Kombat was a gift that kept giving last year when the reboot bowed on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. It was satisfying to millions of loyal fans who enjoyed the likes of PS2-era bloodletting and MK vs. DC Universe, and it was a hugely pleasant surprise to fighting game fans who’d dismissed it for several years.

Nearly everyone went home happy. Now, you can feel slightly awkward about playing it around children and the elderly in public as Mortal Kombat comes to the PlayStation Vita! Here’s our first look!

After watching this, do you think you'll add Mortal Kombat to your list of must-have games during the first few months of PlayStation Vita?

Wow, you commenters are impossible to please... These graphics are bad and unimpressive? Did you people seriously expect a PS3-tech pocket console? C'mon, use your heads. I can't wait to pick up a vita, and Mortal Kombat will be in my library.

Graphics are bad because they simply used an inefficient scaling tool built into the Unreal Engine. The unreal engine can scale up or down in complexity with some "minor" code changes. The downside is that you're not getting anywhere near the same performance as a native engine so you end having to scale it way lower than what the console can do. This is the result. Given the specs of the vita, and an engine wrote efficiently, the handheld version could have looked 99% like the console ones, simply scaled down in size. Either way, vita has terrible battery performance, I can't justify "mobile" gaming that hasn't evolved past a 2-4hr charge.

The graphics are probably so unimpressive because the game needed to run at 60FPS. If NetherRealm had decided to make it 30FPS I'm pretty sure the game would look pretty much exactly like the console versions

Other than some dud graphics this looks pretty neat. I'll probably pick up a Vita for when it comes out.

    Whatever happened to FAPs?
