Snoopy's Street Fair will be free for smartphones this November
Since announcing its acquisition of the Peanuts license last month, Capcom's casual-gaming imprint, Beeline Games, has been working on fleshing the title out with details beyond “Snoopy's in it.” Now, the company's announced the first in a promised series of titles for the smartphone-and-microtransaction set, Snoopy's Street Fair. It's based on Peanuts, it'll allow you to unlock comic strips from the original Peanuts, and guess how much it costs? (“Peanuts” was a synonym for “no money” around the middle of last century, in case you need a hint).
As these preliminary screens show, the game looks to capably capture the distinctly raggy art style for which Peanuts is known – a welcome change from decades' worth of licenses which seemed to figure that “round heads and muted colors” was pretty much all it took to replicate cartoonist Charles M. Schultz's signature style. Licensed voice-actors and theme music from the cartoon will also be present.
The title focuses on Charlie Brown's attempts at organizing a street fair to pay for new baseball uniforms, without which the strip would lose its long-running line of “Charlie Brown stands on the mound and contemplates how crap his team is” comics. Snoopy, meanwhile, is on hand to ruin things via a range of costumes, each of which somehow unlock different minigames and art assets drawn from Schultz's original strips.
The game will be a free download for compatible phones (iOS devices were first announced for the title), with purchasable in-game currency available to unlock the title's art and extras faster. It releases in November.
