Resident Evil 4

Third time's the charm after all

Is there anything left to say about Resident Evil 4? It came out more than two years ago, astonished GameCube owners for about a month and then went into hibernation until the PS2 port launched later in 2005 with bonus goodies galore. Now, in friggin' 2007, Wii gets the PS2 version plus some wiggle-waggle controls - and that's it. No enhanced graphics, no "new to Wii" modes, just the same damn game you've probably beaten two or three times by now. And you know what? It's still a satisfying, gore-splattered freakshow that's unlike any other game on a Nintendo platform.

The Wii-centric controls, oddly enough, make this aging classic feel a bit new. Even though every item, every bug-headed villager is in the exact same place as it was in 2005, the precision aiming of the Wii Remote drags you into Leon's insane world even more than the GC/PS2 versions. Holding the B trigger raises your upgradeable, customizable guns, and hitting A makes whatever you're pointing at die a grizzly, bloody death. Being able to freely aim via onscreen crosshairs takes a lot of guesswork out of shooting - we think it works even better than the original version's laser sight. Reloading is a blast too, just shake the remote like you're pumping a shotgun and you're back in business.

As cool as aiming with the remote is, it can get damn tiring pointing it at the TV for hours at a time. The Wii controls may enhance the experience to a certain degree, but it's not like you're missing any of the action by using a standard controller. That's why RE4: Wii Edition also supports the Classic Controller. We bounced back and forth from Wii Remote to old-school a few times and have to side with Wii on this one. The free aiming is just more fun, and honestly, if you play with the Classic Controller, you're getting nothing new at all.

GameCube owners, we feel your pain. You probably bought this when it was still an "exclusive" title, only to see it land on PS2 a few months down the road with extra Ada Wong missions, a new laser weapon and new costumes. Well, now you can have all that on Wii, plus a true widescreen mode that the GC original was lacking. Yes, Wii will play the GC RE4, but this really is the way to go.

There's nothing wrong here at all, save for the fact that it only proves Wii is at least as powerful as a GameCube. A true remake, with some kind of visual oompf, would have spoke volumes to Wii's actual power. Extra content would have been nice too, as the Wii Sports crowd isn't going to jump right into this at all. It may be on Wii, but it's no more accessible to the masses than the other versions.

I hated this game. The controls were frustrating as hell. And I don't mean stopping to shoot, I mean the annoying Wii Remote aiming.

I just bought this game for $17.99 at GameStop. My mom was skeptical at first (That game is rated M!) I just told her that it has no zombies. She said after I played it "I wish they were zombies." But nonetheless, she lets me play it only at 8:30pm after my sister goes to bed. (Nice job mom!) I don't care. I am only 13 though. Another thing is the fact that I have a little score adjuster.

+1 If you bought it used under $19.99!
+1 If you bought it thinking it would be difficult!
-1 If you thought anyone could play it! (This means what if Grandpa bought it?)
-1 If you bought it for standard Retail Price. ($49.99)

This means the game can get a grand score of Eleven, or a suckage score of 7.
