TalkRadar Clip of the Week: Halo: Reception

Seriously, we know you’re busy people! We also know a lot of you reading GamesRadar haven’t ever listened to our filthy, stupid podcast: TalkRadar. We understand your trepidation. They're too long, podcasts are boring, etc… Well, here’s a bite-sized clip we humbly ask that you try super-quick like! It may not be what you were expecting

GamesRadar's Charlie Barratt had the audacity to call Halo: Reach "Great" and score it with what may as well be a mark of death: AN EIGHT! Needless to say, a lot of people weren't happy.

Obviously, we take your criticisms very seriously at GR, so we decided to address the death threats, name calling and demands that Charlie be fired and left penniless with the utmost professionalism: By screaming your comments back to you over Hans Zimmer's blaring INCEPTION theme!

Above: Who knew Charlie could be such a douche?! batman5273 reveals the truth

    LOL xbox fanboys
  • MrDuracraft - September 24, 2010 7:34 p.m.

Like it was said in the video, go to a hundred different other game sites and you'll exactly what you want to hear. But if you want opinionated reviews go to actual games journalism sites.
  • RebornKusabi - September 24, 2010 6:45 p.m.

What I found funny about this all, aside from the guy who spoke Engrish in his comments, is that most people seem to not get it through their stupid ****ing brains that reviews are several things: 1) They're opinions expressed by the reviewer 2) All reviews are subjective 3) NEVER READ THE SCORE FIRST!!! Actually read the main part of the review, i.e. the words written by the reviewer 4) If you disagree with the review, there's PLENTY of reviews out there that conform to your opinion... just search Metacritic for a perfect score and read that instead 5) Different people have different opinions of different things. I loved Scott Pilgrim vs. The World but everyone else saw and loved The Expendables instead. Do I hold that against others? Nope. That's their opinions, not mine. 6) Your life is gonna be very short and very pointless if you pointlessly let others offend you about a professional review score for something you love. 7) Your life is gonna be very pointless and very short if you allow others opinions on something you love to influence how much you love something 8) This site doesn't have just ONE reviewer on it, or other sites for that matter. Different reviewers handle different reviews here and what one reviewer here liked, another reviewer on another site will hate and vice versa in this case.

Ohhh damn, Chris' reading of some of those comments was hilaaaarious.
  • vanguard - September 24, 2010 3:58 p.m.

Funny how numbers throw people into something of a shark frenzy, of course not everyone is smart enough to understand that "reviews" are respectable, and not always professional opinions. That's all, opinions. The only difference is: we're not making the blog/article reviewing the game and they are.

This was the best bit of last weeks podcast, after seeing/playing a bit of the game a 8 seems fair to me
  • Lionhunter44 - September 24, 2010 12:11 p.m.

I now give Gamesradar more credit than i ever have before for their rating system. Halo: Reach deserved an 8 and I completely agree with Charlie. The very fact that he actually rated this game proves that the people at Gamesradar actually do work rather than sit around, play video games and drink beer. I am a long time fan of the series, and i believe the game dose nothing more than try to fix some of the problems with Halo 3, it has failed me in many ways. He actually played the game and rated it fairly unlike many other sites that just slap a 10 on their ratings because it is just another Halo game. Thank you Gamesradar for being honest about how a game truly is. If I ever meet you guys, first round is on me.

    I can't stop laughing.
  • HarryGreek - September 24, 2010 12:02 p.m.

Nice - the fanboys get mocked and have salt poured onto their wounds. And, the idiots that feel GR is responsible for this; you are idiots. It's not like they yelled fire in a packed movie theater. This was their opinion on a video game.
  • Caio - September 24, 2010 11:49 a.m.

Heh. That was really funny, guys.
  • SillyPigeon - September 24, 2010 11:25 a.m.

"I was a huge fan of the metal gear series and loved every game in it's own way so why the hell would i care if some reviewer gave it a 6!" sorry i meant to add to this that my love for the games means this doesn't matter. Everyone will love a game in their time or a series because it just suits them. I loved the overblown and ridiculousness of kojima's games and the fact is his games had a personality all of their own (well half game/half crazy b movie!). THing is it isn't for everyone so i appreciate that i just wish some other people would be as reasonable.
  • billybobbyjoe - September 24, 2010 11:11 a.m.

Is it just me or are reviews objective... the point being that the person who reviews the game gives it the score they THINK it is worth. It's not a scientific formula they work out and the reaction of fanboys to reviews is really really sad. I was a huge fan of the metal gear series and loved every game in it's own way so why the hell would i care if some reviewer gave it a 6! As long as they back up their own opinion with reason and intelligence then whats to argue. Then again these weren't arguments but just unreasonable vitriol without anything to back it up! To win an argument you have to present one, not just list a bunch of games that got higher scores and then say as if they are better than halo..... How about justifying it guys?
  • Austin_SJ - September 24, 2010 10:03 a.m.

I almost choked while listening to the podcast first time round, Chris possesses magnificent acting talent.
  • Fortunate34 - September 24, 2010 7:56 a.m.

  • spencerm - September 24, 2010 6:51 a.m.

"i want this ingrained in your conscience" lol very funny, as for reach, i love the game and to be honest i dont give a shit what it got, all that matters is if it does well and if people like it so whatever plus its not like it got a freakin 5 or something. some people just overreact waaaaayyyyy too much
  • JJBSterling - September 24, 2010 6:05 a.m.

I didn't find it very funny, It was the first time I ever skipped through some of the podcast. Episode 119 was worse than 10 in my opinion. I have no doubt 120 will get back on the track of awesomeness though :)
  • litaljohn - September 24, 2010 5:40 a.m.

could someone please explain to me why superfans feel the need to look back to older games as a benchmark for how a new game should be reviewed? Is Halo reach better than halo 3, yes quite possibly. (personally i haven't played it because the concept of jetpacks and these abilities killed my interest in the game. That being said though from games out and being released right now an 8 can be a fair number. Halo reach wouldnt get a better score if you factor in halo 3, instead it would be a knock on halo 3 that essentially makes that score worse because of the impovements and products put out since then. a game being better than one from 2008 does not make it the greatest game of 2010
