Assassin's Creed Black Resynced is the official name for the long-rumored Assassin's Creed Black Flag Remake.
Yes, after much speculation and alleged leaks, Ubisoft finally confirmed a remake of the swashbuckling 2013 adventure in an Assassin's Creed: Into 2026 blog post in March, with word from head of content, Jean Guesdon. Offering various updates on previously announced upcoming Assassin's Creed games set to come our way – including the likes of the next big entry, Assassin's Creed Hexe – the post also went into the future of the latest release, Assassin's Creed Shadows, before the studio finally acknowledged the remake is in the works.
With a single piece of artwork and the Resynced title being our only real glimpse so far, we're still awaiting our first proper look at the game. But while we wait it out for Ubisoft to raise the sails and unveil more about the Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag Remake, we've brought together all of the latest news, details, and speculation surrounding Assassin's Creed Black Flag: Resynced, so you can get on board with what's to come.
Assassin's Creed Black Flag Remake release date speculation
While the existence of Assassin's Creed Black Flag: Resynced was only officially confirmed as of March 2026, Ubisoft's post on the Assassin's Creed series teases that you should keep "your spyglass on the horizon", so we can expect to learn more about the Assassin's Creed Black Flag remake in the future.
While this has yet to be confirmed, initial rumors suggested that the remake was in the "earliest stages of development" back in 2023, with a report from Kotaku alleging it would "not be complete for at least a few years". If true, the release date could be closer than we think, although it's difficult to gauge at this stage how complete it is since we haven't seen any footage in action. Still, with the promise of a future update on the "horizon", hopefully we'll find out very soon.
Have the Assassin's Creed Black Flag: Resynced platforms been confirmed?
Currently, Ubisoft hasn't yet confirmed the Assassin's Creed Black Flag: Resynced platforms. But historically speaking (excuse the pun), the Assassin's Creed games tend to release across both PC and console, so we expect to see it sail onto PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5.
Given that the sprawling open-world of Assassin's Creed Shadows landed on Nintendo's latest console some months after the RPGs initial launch, we could also see the Assassin's Creed Black Flag remake drop among the lineup of upcoming Switch 2 games, too. We'll be keeping a close eye out for further updates.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Remake gameplay
The 2013 adventure is set in the Golden Age of pirates in the Assassin's Creed timeline, with Black Flag's story kicking off in 1715. Following one of the best Assassin's Creed protagonists in Edward Kenway, a young ship captain, you meet and ally with a host of memorable pirate figures plucked from history and legend – including the likes of Calico Jack, Blackbeard, and Anne Bonny.
Kitted out with swords, flintlock pistols, and the signature hidden blade, Kenway was also armed with smoke bombs to cloak his presence and stun enemies, a blowpipe to silently knock out foes with darts, and a rope dart to pull and hang up opponents.
As you set out after the central villain, Woodes Rogers, you take command of your own ship, which is yours to customize and steer. There's plenty to see and do in the sprawling, sun-soaked Caribbean setting, from hunting down treasure and rare animals, to working on ship upgrades, completing naval contracts, and searching shipwrecks for valuables.
We expect all of this to return with refinements and polish. But with more entries in the series factoring in ships as a core part of exploration – such as Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Assassin's Creed Valhalla – it'll be interesting to see what improvements might be made when it comes to the Remake's naval combat and navigation.
The open-world adventure has long been considered one of the best Assassin's Creed games in the stealthy series thanks to its scope, protagonist and ultimate pirate fantasy fulfilment. So, there's naturally been a lot of excitement surrounding the idea of a shiny remake that brings Kenway's sprawling journey across the high seas into the new-gen era, and we can't wait to see how it comes together. Assassin's Creed Black Flag Remake leaks and rumors
The Assassin's Creed Black Flag Remake leaks and rumors began to really pick up back in summer 2023, with anonymous sources reportedly revealing to Kotaku that the remake was in early development. The following year, in 2024, Ubisoft confirmed some remakes of "older Assassin's Creed games" were coming, but still hadn't confirmed the suspicion surrounding Black Flag.
Then, speculation reached a fever pitch in 2025, when a series of supposed leaks seemingly surfaced that kept the rumor mill about the Remake alive and well. With hints from the like of a statue maker to Edward Kenway's voice actor, we also saw an age rating on the official PEGI website for "Black Flag Resynced" before the title was later confirmed. Towards the end of 2025, Steam updates then seemingly pointed to Ubisoft readying up for something Black Flag-shaped.
Many were hopeful that the Black Flag remake would get a big reveal during the Game Awards 2025 showcase, but after it didn't surface, rumors and speculation continued at the start of 2026 as fans began to wonder when it would actually get announced in light of the website domain name. With the likes of Black Flag's soundtrack getting uploaded to Ubisoft's YouTube account, only adding more wind in the sails, we at last got confirmation that it is, in fact, on the way in March 2026.
Who's making Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced?
We've yet to get confirmation on which Ubisoft studio is making Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, but rumors in the past have pointed to Ubisoft Singapore.
The studio worked on the original Black Flag on some of the naval ship sailing elements alongside lead developer, Ubisoft Montreal. Most recently, the Singapore studio released the sea-faring adventure Skull and Bones in 2024, which famously had a very lengthy development after actually beginning life as a Black Flag expansion all the way back in 2013.
Of course, this is still currently based on claims in past reports, so we'll have to wait on official work to find out which studio is behind the Remake.
