Square Enix confirmed today it will be
porting a handful of its RPG titles to Android devices
out East starting December 1. The games will appear as downloads in
the studio's soon-to-be-launched Square Enix Market digital store, and will be
available to customers of Japanese cellphone carriers NTT DoCoMo,
NDDI and Softbank.
When it opens, the Square Enix Market will feature the iOS remake of Final Fantasy, Crystal
Defenders, and Dragon Quest Monsters Most Wanted! Other games, like Chrono Trigger (which was recently announced to be getting an iOS release next month), may come out down the line.
So far, the Square Enix Market for
Android devices is a Japan-only perk, although odds are the studio
will pursue a similar initiative in North America and the UK if their
digital distribution experiment pays off. In the meantime, if you are
a PS3 owner with a hankering to play some of Square Enix's older
RPGs, you can always get your fix during PSN's ongoing Winter of RPGs
promotion. If not, maybe staring at these screens from the
aforementioned Japan-only Android titles will do the trick:
