SNK Playmore launches huge Neo-Geo sale on PSN

With Neo-Geo cabinets becoming harder and harder to find in arcades, you've got two options for playing retro classics like Art of Fighting, Baseball Stars and World Heroes in their original form. You can find a greasy takeaway or bowling alley which hasn't yet replaced its cabinet and hope most of the buttons work, or reacquire the titles on PSN. We're subtly leading you toward the latter option, because doing so is currently half the price it usually would be.

From today until January 24, SNK Playmore is taking part in the big PSN-wide sale you may've heard about, with 17 Neo-Geo games priced at $4.49 apiece instead of the usual $8.99. You can also grab a 10-pack for $39.99 instead of the regular price of $79.99. Here's the full list of titles on sale, containing some solid classics and a few unsung heroes– anything take your fancy?

Nostalgia is all fine and good, but seriously, many of these games were crap. It wasn't until the later sequels that they really fulfilled their potential - KOF 98, Samurai Shodown 2, Fatal Fury 2, Art of Fighting 2. More than 15 years ago, I owned a Neo Geo + 2 controllers + Fatal Fury (cost me almost US$1000 - never got any other games for it), and it was so tough to do special moves we thought we were retarded.

Still overpriced. It would even be overpriced if they sold them in 4 game bundles for $5. I mean, first of all, these games are OLD. It's not like they're timeless classics like Super Mario Bros. and Sonic 2. They're all imperfect, outdated games that vastly improved over much time. I can't believe they're trying to sell these games for such outrageous prices. For a $5-$9 price range, they should be selling the best NeoGeo has to offer, like Garou MOTW, Samurai Shodown 4, KOF 2003, and so on.

Not to mention Neogeo and arcade games are the most highly available emulated games on the web. It would be really hard to actually get people to buy these games.

The Metal Slug games are totally worth that. Too bad I own them all and more on the wii for a fraction of the price...
